My biggest take away from the Virgil Abloh videos was his advice to keep things concise and powerful. I strongly agree that first impressions do matter and especially for design. For my branding inspiration, I looked a lot to turn of the cetnruy to 1940s electrical industry design. Audio and DIY electronics are really important to me, so when tasked with creating a brand, that was where my mind first went. Looking at Reddy Kilowatt and the Western Electric font made me want to use something that referenced lightening bolts in the font. I found a free font called “Hand of God” that really fit the bill. As for my logo, I drew inspo from the overly complicated Grammophone then Viktor audio logo “His Master’s Voice”. This logo depicts a dog looking into a speaker confused because the sound of his owners voice is coming out if it. I was also looking at the angel in the Western Electric font. Both of these fonts are not simple, nor are they easy to recreate, their business and meaning behind the images are beautiful to me. I stole my color palette from the Beach Boy’s album cover for Surfs Up. The colors are broody yet calm and somewhat sad.
